James Washington Starts Racking up the All-American Honors
James Washington has started racking up All-American honors like he racked up TDs and yards at Boone Pickens Stadium. As every outlet in the world rolls out their All-American teams starting this week, we’ll keep track of Washington’s honors.
The senior wideout needs just 69 yards to become the all-time receiving leader in Oklahoma State history, usurping Rashaun Woods’ 4,414 yards in the early 2000s. Washington also has 38 receiving TDs on 221 receptions and has averaged a ridiculous 19.7 yards per catch in his career.
He is a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award tonight, which he will likely win tonight on ESPN at 6 p.m. against Michael Gallup of Colorado State and David Sills of West Virginia.
Here are his current All-American honors.
Sports Illustrated — First team
Washington led the nation’s receivers with 1,423 yards and was able to walk in several of his 12 touchdowns after he and Cowboys QB Mason Rudolph blew the top off opposing secondaries. [SI]
Bleacher Report — First team
Advertised before the season as the best home run threat in the country, James Washington did not disappoint.
Washington averaged more than 20 yards per reception, which was the highest mark among players who made at least three catches per game. He also led the nation in receptions that went for at least 30 yards, 40 yards and 50 yards. [B/R]
The Athletic — First team
The Biletnikoff Award finalist has been a big-play machine year after year and has gotten better as a senior, with an FBS-leading 1,423 receiving yards and 13 total TDs. He’s averaging more than 20 yards per catch, leads the nation in 30-plus yard receptions (17) and has spent nearly every week at No. 1 or 2 The All-American’s wide receiver efficiency ratings. [Athletic]
Sports on Earth — First team
Sometimes, predictions are easy to make: Washington was widely regarded as the nation’s top receiver entering his senior season, and he has lived up to the hype in ranking first with 1,423 receiving yards and averaging 20.6 yards catch in an explosive offense. [SOE]
SB Nation — First team
The nation’s leader in receiving yards, total (1,423) and per game (119).
