Former Cowboy heavyweight Jared Rosholt has been fighting in the Pro Fighting League over the last few months.

In short, the setup of the league is an MMA tournament with the winner of the tournament taking home $1,000,000. The tournament is set up and seeded by a few prelim fights.

Jared has been done with his prelim fights for a bit going 1-1 in them. He was awaiting the results of the PFL 7 fight Thursday night between Mike Kyle and Caio Alencar. This fight determined the final seeding of the tournament, Jared’s spot in the heavyweight bracket, and his opponent for PFL 8 on October 5th in New Orleans.

The only way one of these guys could shake up the bracket was for one of them to win by something other than decision. A knockout, submission, etc… That didn’t happen, so the bracket shook out exactly as it was before PFL 7.

Jared comes in as the seven seed and will fight Kevin Tiller. They’ve actually already fought once at PFL 4 and Jared lost by submission in the second round. At the time Jared was, in my opinion, winning the fight. He got a little overly aggressive with a takedown and was put in a guillotine and tapped out. Even though he did lose the initial fight the rematch is definitely winnable for him. The first fight can be watched here at about the two hour mark.

Naturally, if he wins here he’s in a good spot as he takes the two seeds path to the final. If Jared wins the semifinal is actually the same night! Very different format than most MMA leagues. It’s not common to fight two fights in one night. The first round will be broadcast on their Facebook page and the semifinal on the NBC Sports Network.
