Jawun Evans Lights It up in First NBA Start
While his former teammates were watching a bare-chested Mike Gundy MC Homecoming and Hoops, Jawun Evans was working to make a name for himself.
With the Los Angeles Clippers at home to face court mates, the Los Angeles Lakers in their fourth and final preseason game, Doc Rivers turned his rookie point guard for the start in place of injured Patrick Beverly. And Evans didn’t disappoint.
“Yeah, you could see, like today, I don’t think he had a turnover. If he did he had it late in the game,” Rivers said of Evans. “When you think about that first game and to that, the growth is amazing.”
He didn’t have a turnover, but Evans did dish out eight assists to go with his 22 points, four rebounds and two steals. What’s more, he looked completely comfortable and confident captaining a team of mostly reserves and probable G League players to nearly defeat what most consider to be the Lakers’ regular rotation.
Evans is still technically playing for a final roster spot but with a highlight reel to his name against actual NBA competition, you can be bet he’s solidified his case. Rosters must be set by this Monday, October 16.
The Clippers return to the Staples Center against the Lakers for a season opener on October 19 at 9:30 p.m. Central, this time as the visitor.
Check out Evans’ complete game highlights.
