Jawun Evans, Vanessa Shippy Up for Big 12 Athlete of the Year
Voting is currently underway for the Big 12 Athlete of the Year Awards, and fan voting goes into the final decision. Each school is represented with a male and female candidate. Oklahoma State’s nominees are first-team All-Big 12 point guard Jawun Evans and All-American softball player, Vanessa Shippy.
Evans just signed a three-year contract with the Los Angeles Clippers after being taken in the second round of this year’s NBA Draft. He averaged 19.2 points and 6.4 assists per game in his sophomore year with OSU and ranked second nationally in assist percentage, averaging 8.8 per 40 minutes.
Shippy finished her third-straight season starting every single game. As a junior, she led the team in batting percentage (.398), slugging percentage (.613), hits (72), runs batted in (46), doubles (16), triples (4) and total bases (111). Shippy helped the Cowgirls make their second consecutive postseason appearance, including an upset over No. 1-seed Florida off Shippy’s game-wining double.
