Jelani Woods Lands on Mackey Preseason Watch List
Woods is getting noticed.
Jelani Woods scored just one touchdown in 2019, but his potential as a dominant tight end is undeniable.
Woods was one of 36 players on the preseason John Mackey Award watch list that released Friday. The Mackey is awarded annually to college football’s most outstanding tight end.
Oklahoma State’s Cowboy back is one of four Big 12 players who made the list of 36, joining Iowa State’s Charlie Kolar, TCU’s Pro Wells and Oklahoma’s Austin Strogner. No OSU player has ever won the Mackey since the award’s inception in 2000.
Woods, entering his redshirt junior season, came to Stillwater as a three-star, 6-foot-7 quarterback from Ellenwood, Georgia. He transitioned to Cowboy back after his redshirt season.
In two seasons as the Cowboys primary tight end, Woods has caught 23 passes for 232 yards and three touchdowns. Of those yards, 112 came last season. Woods scored one touchdown as a sophomore, coming against West Virginia.
The John Mackey award will be presented in December.
