There are the fun parts of running a sports blog — opening night in Stillwater with a new video board and all sorts of toys at running back comes to mind. And there are the not fun parts — writing this post comes to mind.

Joe Randle, who has previously had skirmishes with the law and has been in and out of jail over the past few years following a short NFL career, was arrested on suspicion of rape on Friday in Kansas.

Sedgwick County notes the booking took place at 3:43 a.m. on Friday.

There aren’t many confirmed details at the time, but obviously this is not a great look for somebody who has really struggled to keep his nose clean over the past few years. Randle was released from jail earlier this year after two years behind bars and was put on five years probation.

According to the Kansas City Star, nobody is talking thus far.

Records show that Randle was booked into Sedgwick County Jail at around 3:40 a.m. Friday. Spokesmen for the police and prosecutor’s office and Randle’s attorney in previous cases didn’t immediately reply to phone messages seeking details about his latest arrest. [KC Star]

An arrest on suspicion of rape is worlds apart from a conviction for rape so we need to let this play out, but for now it’s yet another sad chapter in what has been a really discouraging book thus far for Randle in his post-Oklahoma State career. Randle turns 27 later this year.

Hat tip to SI.
