John-Michael Wright Earns Big 12 Newcomer of the Week
Wright place-Wright time.
You’d be hard-pressed to find someone in the league who made more winning plays than John-Michael Wright last week. For his efforts, the senior guard picked up Big 12 Newcomer of the Week honors.
He started off his impressive week with a game-winner against Texas Tech on Wednesday. Wright has a knack for being in the right place at the right time (a new nickname is painfully obvious) and this was the perfect example.
He scored eight points and grabbed six boards against Texas Tech, but then he carried the Cowboys for much of the way in their impressive win at Iowa State. Wright led all scorers in Ames with 19 points on just 10 shots. He was 3-for-6 from 3 and also made winning basketball play after winning basketball play down the stretch, including a one-man steal and fastbreak and setting up his teammates on a couple of big-time shots in crunch time.
This is Wright’s first Big 12 weekly award. Kalib Boone and Avery Anderson have each earned conference Player of the Week honors this season.
