Justice Hill and Chris Carson Power Oklahoma State To 334 Rushing Yards In Win TCU

The Cowboys dominated TCU in Fort Worth behind a strong outing from the much maligned offensive line group — arguably the team’s most improved position group. They imposed their will against a strong Horned Frogs rushing defense. The direct beneficiary of those holes opened? Justice Hill and Chris Carson, who each rushed for more than 100 yards — the first time that has happened at OSU since 2013.

Both Carson and Justice have very separate running styles. Hill is explosive, and slippery in space. Carson is more of a power back with good aggression and an ability to lower his shoulder to pick up tough yards.

They both performed at the top of their game with Hill unleashing the lightning and Carson playing meaner than he’s played all season.

“I’m very proud of our running backs and the way they are running,” head coach Mike Gundy said after the game. “Our offensive line play, I always try to tell them without watching the tape, I think it was pretty good.”

Here’s a run from earlier in the game from Hill, who didn’t break it out. But this run shows everything he brings: Burst, explosiveness through the hole, and a slippery style of running.

And later in the same drive, the Pokes fed Carson who found a wide open hole on the left side of the line which he burst through to the second level with.

Hill went over the true freshman rushing record today, breaking Thurman Thomas with a fitting burst across the seam. The Cowboys smartly motioned tight end Zac Veatch into the action who threw a nice lead block for the young man. He makes 32 yards look like…not 32 yards.

Both Hill and Carson each appear to be hitting their strides as the season culminates, and OSU appears to be — dare I say it — a strong power running team!

They finished the game as a team with 334 total rushing yards. It’s their largest rushing output of the season.

With closing runs like this from Carson (this was the fourth quarter), Oklahoma State’s 1-2 punch at running back rides as high as it has all season into a Big 12 title showdown in two weeks in Norman.
