OSU Ladies Claim Share of Big 12 Tennis Title
For the second consecutive year, the OSU women’s tennis team has won the Big 12 regular season championship. This time they share it with Texas Tech which also went 8-1 in conference play.
After playing their last home match last weekend, the Cowgirl seniors were determined to carry their team to the finish line and accomplished just that with a shutout of Iowa State. It was their fifth-straight match sweep (West Virginia, OU, Kansas and Kansas State were the other victims).
One Cowgirl senior, Viktoriya Lushkova, won her 94th singles game during the match placing her atop OSU’s all time Cowgirl win list. Cowgirl tennis coach Chris Young has done a tremendous job refocusing his ladies after last season’s heartbreaking ending. He had this to say about his 9th-ranked squad.

“I am so proud of these girls for accomplishing one of our goals for the season,” said Young. “This is a reward for their hard work and dedication, and will be inspiration as we move into the postseason. Today we played flawless tennis with great energy, and what is exciting for me as a coach is that we are only getting better at the right time.”
Encouragement and congratulatory tweets have begun flooding in over the last couple of days for the well-deserved Cowgirl Team. Isn’t it awesome when other OSU sports have each other’s backs?

The ladies are exactly where you want be at this time in the season, playing great and only getting better. They will have a tremendous opportunity to duplicate last season’s postseason success starting Friday at 4 p.m. in Norman as the No. 2 seed playing the 7/10 winner. Watch out Big 12, there’s a new heavyweight in town.
