Linebacker Patrick Macon Out Indefinitely After Suffering Foot Injury

Junior college transfer Patrick Macon, a linebacker entering his second season with the Oklahoma State football program, sustained a foot injury and could miss the entirety of the 2018 season.

“Patrick Macon had a foot injury that might be longer than what we would want,” said Mike Gundy on Saturday. “It could be a couple three months, we’ll know more later. But he won’t be out there for awhile.”

Macon signed with OSU as a part of the 2017 recruiting class to high acclaim, having earned All-American honors at the junior college level out of Arizona Western. However as a junior last season, Macon did not play as he acclimated to the Division I level.

Veteran linebacker Justin Phillips is entrenched as the starter in the heart of OSU’s defense, but Macon had a chance to be a key cog in the rotation this upcoming season with a strong camp. Given his availability for the remainder of the season is now in question, Amen Ogbongbemiga could have a big opportunity to seize playing time after being used in a niche role last year.
