Louisiana Cornerback Target Eddie Smith Set to Visit OSU on Monday

Oklahoma State will host three-star Louisiana cornerback Eddie Smith on Monday for his first trip to Stillwater, he told Gabe Brooks of Scout.com.

Smith is a highly-regarded talent with 20-plus Division I offers from Slidell, Louisiana. His offer sheet includes TCU, Ole Miss, Texas Tech, Georgia, Tennessee and a slew of others.

At 6-foot and 180-pounds, Smith is a two-way talent who plays wide receiver and cornerback in high school. He caught 11 passes for 275 yards and five touchdowns as a junior last season on offense. On defense, Smith recorded 33 tackles, one tackle for loss, two interceptions, and one defensive TD.

OSU has a history of recruiting long, smooth cornerbacks in the mold of 6-foot-1 sophomore Madre Harper, who could start for OSU next season. And cornerbacks coach Tim Duffie is pitching those attributes, which Smith clearly possesses, as big reasons why he’d see the field early and often in Stillwater.

“He’s [Coach Tim Duffie] been telling me I can come there and get on the field early,” said Smith. “It’s a great school. Don’t know too much about the defense, but I know they have two really good wide receivers on offense.”

Worth noting is that Smith’s personal trainer is J.J. McCleskey, the father of OSU receiver Jalen McCleskey. The connection to McCleskey paid off big for OSU once in landing receiver Tyron Johnson, and could again be a factor in Smith’s recruitment.
