Marcus Smart named Big 12 Player of the Year

Marcus Smart was named Big 12 Player of the Year tonight joining Tony Allen and James Anderson as the only Cowboys to ever win the award. He is also the third freshman to win Freshman of the Year and Player of the Year in the same season.
The other two, maybe you’ve heard of them, are Michael Beasley and Kevin Durant.
Smart’s final stat line for the regular season looked like this:
15.1 points
5.7 rebounds
4.3 assists
0.7 blocks
3.0 steals
2 large huevos
And here’s the list of which schools have the most Big 12 POY awards:
Kansas – 7 (Robinson, Morris, Simien, Collison, Gooden, LaFrentz, LaFrentz)
Oklahoma State – 3 (Smart, Anderson, Allen)
Iowa State – 2 (Tinsley, Fizer)
Texas – 2 (Durant, Tucker)
Kansas State – 1 (Beasley)
OU – 1 (Griffin)
Nebraska – 1 (Hamilton???)
Here’s what Smart had to say about winning the award.
And this pretty much sums it up from the rest of the conference.
The rest of the Big 12 congratulates Marcus Smart on his POTY award, while simultaneously begging him to leave for the NBA draft.

Very well deserved from somebody who led Travis Ford to his second 23-win season at Oklahoma State (with a lot of ball left to play).
One more year (or two or three) indeed!
