Marcus Watson Transfers to New Mexico State

OSU loses yet another top signee.

The strange and unfortunate saga of Marcus Watson’s time at Oklahoma State has come to an end. Watson is transferring to New Mexico State where he is already enrolled.

This comes one month after Watson entered the NCAA’s transfer portal. The touted four-star guard never saw the court for Oklahoma State.

A female OSU student accused him of rape and filed a protective order against the freshman. After an investigation, the Payne County District Attorney’s office did not pursue criminal charges but a Title IX investigation conducted by the university in December resulted in a semester-long suspension.

Here’s some more insight from The Oklahoman‘s report.

According to documents obtained by The Oklahoman, a university Title IX investigation conducted in December resulted in the semester-long suspension for Watson and a ban from contacting the female student.

The university’s student conduct committee ultimately determined that “sexual intercourse did not occur” and “effective consent was not provided by the complainant for sexual activity beyond kissing.” The committee ruled Watson “was responsible for non-consensual sexual assault.”

“The panel does not consider (Watson) to be a danger to campus, but feels that he would benefit from some separation from campus to reflect on his actions,” according to the committee documents. [NewsOK]

Watson was the Cowboys’ highest-rated signee in 2019. The Buford High School (Georgia) product was the No. 88-ranked player in the country.
