Mason Rudolph on Jim Rome: ‘I Think I’m the Best Quarterback in This Class,’ Mayfield is Amused

On Friday, Mason Rudolph appeared in studio on CBS Sports Radio’s Jim Rome. The all-time leading OSU passer caught up with Rome on the NFL Draft, his recent foot injury and going shirtless with Mike Gundy.

Rudolph was not shy about where he sees himself in a deep pool of draft-eligible QBs.

“I think I’m the best quarterback in this class, for sure,” Rudolph said. “You look at the tape and you look at what I’ve done over four years, the experience I’ve had, the starts, the ability to push the ball down the field and athletic enough … I’m more athletic than people give me the credit for and get out of situations.

“I think I’m a leader first and foremost, and I think Joe Gibbs used to say it best. The way he evaluated quarterbacks was, ‘does the guy get the team down the field?’ That’s something I do. I’ve done it for four years and I’ll continue to do it at the next level.”

Rudolph showed up to Rome’s studio in Los Angeles wearing a boot and confirmed the foot sprain that was previously reported and that it occurred during the Camping World Bowl.

Rudolph also confirmed that he will not play in the Senior Bowl as a precaution but that he will take part in the Senior Bowl festivities. He also stated that he will only be in the boot for another week and will be 100 percent for the NFL Combine.

Rome asked him if he viewed the decision to play in the bowl game differently in hind sight, given the injury.

“I’m a team guy, and we wanted to win the game,” said Rudolph. “We wanted to go three-straight 10-win seasons and we accomplished that goal. So, no regrets. I went with my gut and wanted to be with my teammates for one more game. Freak things can happen any day of your life.”

Baker Mayfield is aware of and presumably amused by the quote.
