Mike Boynton Meets with Media for First Time Since Marcus Watson Suspension
Boynton discusses Marcus Watson, the Tulsa scrimmage and the Rogers State exhibition.
STILLWATER — With the third season of his tenure starting up, Mike Boynton is again having to field off-the-court questions.
Boynton spoke for the first time Wednesday since Marcus Watson was suspended from the program after a protective order was filed against him. The petitioner filed the protective order against him for an alleged rape that happened Oct. 19.
“At this point, I know exactly what’s been published publicly,” said Boynton. “It’s an unfortunate situation. At this point, that’s all we have.”
Asked about whether the situation was in the court of the Title IX office, Boynton responded: “I believe so. I don’t want to speak out of turn. I’m not involved in that process. There’s first the legal side, so I don’t know if those things happen concurrently.”
Watson remains suspended indefinitely from the team. He has a court date set for Nov. 7.
Boynton also talked about his team’s closed-door scrimmage against Tulsa on Sunday and the Cowboys’ upcoming exhibition game against Rogers State. That game is at 7 p.m. Friday in Gallagher-Iba Arena.
