Oklahoma State athletic director Mike Holder sent a mass email out late Monday evening updating fans on the circumstances surrounding ticketing information for the upcoming football season.

In the email, Holder said “ticket demand currently exceeds our capacity,” so therefore OSU “cannot guarantee a seat for everyone.” However, he said OSU is trying to accommodate season ticket account holders and still intends to offer full refunds to those who have purchased tickets but do not feel comfortable attending games amid the pandemic.

“The circumstances in which our department, our campus, our state and our country find ourselves have placed us in a position of having no good choices or solutions, some options less damaging than others,” he said. “Our financial plight as a result of the virus is significant, while most of our financial obligations remain unchanged.

“The seemingly never-ending uphill battles we are facing have led us to change course from some of our plans announced during the spring and early summer. We’ve made the decision that our season ticket prices will not be prorated based on a five-game home schedule instead of our originally scheduled seven-game slate. However, we will still honor our pledge to completely refund the cost of a season ticket if you are not comfortable attending a game in Boone Pickens Stadium this fall, or if you disagree with our decision not to prorate the ticket price. You will still have the opportunity to renew your seats for the 2021-22 football season.”

Holder also said “we don’t know much more now than we did when our world changed while we were in Kansas City for the Big 12 basketball tournaments,” adding that, “we are in the midst of perhaps the great challenge of our time.”

In the bottom of the email was a link to a FAQ to answer more questions about schedule changes and how it affects ticketing and seating for the 2020 season, which you can view here. There was also an “opt out survey” link included.

Because demand is exceeding capacity (thanks to a reported 25% capacity expected to be put into place), OSU is setting a purchase limit “equal to the number of tickets currently in your account, up to a maximum of six tickets.” If you have more tickets than the limit, OSU will refund the balance — or you can choose to donate some or all of it to the Cowboy Relief Fund.
