NBA Update: Cade Cunningham Continues Hot Streak
Plus, Lindy Waters appears to have survived Steve Kerr’s shortened rotations and an update on Marcus Smart’s injury.
It’s a new year, and a new week, so let’s check in with the handful of former Cowboys making plays around the NBA.
Cade Continues Hot Streak
Across the past 11 games, Cade Cunningham has averaged 24.3 points, 6.1 rebounds and 10.7 assists. He’s scored at least 20 in the 23 of his 29 outings. His Pistons have won six of seven games and are 4-1 over the last five.
After returning from a four-game road trip in the West, Detroit hosted Orlando on New Year’s Day, and Cade came this close to his seventh triple-double, scoring 19 points, grabbing eight boards and dishing out nine assists as the Pistons topped the Magic 133-125 in their return home. Only Nikola Jokić (14) and LeBron James (eight) have more triple-doubles this season.

Cade and the Pistons are back in action Friday night when they host the Charlotte Hornets at 6 p.m. CST.
Lindy Waters Chips in 10 in Win over Sixers
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr unveiled his updated, condensed rotation, that seems to include the former Cowboy and G-League success story.
After three-straight DNPs, Waters has played a featured role off the bench for Golden State the last four games, culminating in a 10-point, two-rebound outing in the win over Philadelphia. Waters went 4-for-7 from the field, knocking down two of his four 3-point attempts.

Waters was also the subject of a nice feature piece by NBC Sports last week. The Warriors in Indy Friday night for a 6 p.m. tip against the Pacers.
Smart Remains Sidelined
Marcus Smart has been sidelined since the Grizzlies’ Dec. 21 win over the Hawks when he sustained a finger injury. Since then he was diagnosed with a partial tear of the proximal extensor hood of his right index finger. He is supposed to be reevaluated next week.
McGriff Turning Heads in G-League
Earlier this week, former OSU forward Cam McGriff posted a 20-10 double-double for the Indiana Mad Ants, the G-League affiliate for the Pacers.
Jahlil Okafor erupted for a career-high 38 points to lead the Mad Ants to their third win! The team had three 20+ point scorers, shot 57% from the field, and 43% from beyond-the-arc.

His fifth year out of college, McGriff signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Pacers this past August, but was waived after just three days. He must have made an impression, however, as the Mad Ants signed him Oct. 27. In 16 games for the Mad Ants this season, McGriff is averaging 13 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists.
