Notebook: Campbell-Oklahoma State

First off, it’s always fun to have to, um… find somewhere to legally watch the game when it’s not on TV. Here are some notes from tonight’s game.

1st Half

• The Cowboys came out in the first half and pretty much played street-ball. They were obviously better than this team and were able to run up a big lead towards the end of the first half but they did by “out-athlete-ing” the Camels.

• This lady could not be any less excited about confetti.

• Not a great stat for the first half: three assists to 12 turnovers.

• The crowd looked good early from what I could tell on my laptop. Then this at halftime.

• Jawun Evans’ first half numbers: 26 points on 7/10 shooting, (2/2 from three), three rebounds, one turnover in 16 minutes.

• Campbell’s Chris Clemons was all the Camels had. He was their only double-digit first-half scorer with 13 and was 4/6 from behind the arc.

• The two teams’ three-point numbers in the first half: Campbell: 8/14, Oklahoma State: 3/12. Not great.

The Cowboys used several steals and subsequent transition buckets to take a 15-point lead into the half.

2nd Half

Cam McGriff dunks are going to be my new favorite things.

• Phil Forte passed Obi Muonelo to move up to No. 3 in all-time three-pointers made at OSU.

• On a related note, Randy Rutherford was court side to see Forte pull into third behind him.

• Phil Forte scares the crap out of me every time he goes diving. Love the effort but we need you to stay healthy, Phil.

• This is not great.

• The Cowboys let the Camels hang around way too long after halftime before finally pushing the lead to 20 about halfway through the second half.

• Forte looked like he was trying to catch the “Pawnee Pistol” in Game 1. He went 2/9 from beyond the arc.

• Let’s check back in with Mitch Solomon.

• My Lindy Waters enthusiasm is getting out of hand for a player who finished with nine points.

• Lucas N’Guessan has potential but has a way to go. He’ll see the court a lot, like most of the younger players the way it looks like Underwood will sub guys out. That’s why we’re going to see these growing pains at times. It should pay off later this season and next.

• The Cowboys shored up their turnover issues after halftime. Seven assists to three turnovers in the second period. Underwood will still have plenty to coach his young team up on though. The bright side is that you can blow this team out and still have plenty to yell about in the film room.

• Evans’ final line: 34 points on 11/18 shooting (2/2 from three), six rebounds, three assists to just two turnovers.

Jeffrey Carroll had himself a game, as well. He had 22 points and nine rebounds on 9/15 shooting. Hot take alert! He may be the second best player on this team.

• Let’s check back in with the crowd.

• OSU broke triple digits for the first time since November 19, 2013. That was the Marcus Smart freak-out game against Memphis three seasons ago at home.

Let’s check back in with Mr. Solomon one more time.

• The Cowboys are back at it on Monday night as they welcome Central Arkansas to GIA to finish out their zoo tour in a game that is actually televised! Gorillas, then Camels, then Bears? Oh my!
