Notebook: Oklahoma State Sets School Record For Steals

Notes from Oklahoma State’s win over Georgetown, 97-70 to secure third place in the Maui Invitational.

• I love that Underwood is willing to experiment with tweaking the lineup. N’Guessan gets the start over Solomon just to try and switch things up. After falling behind 8-0, he subbed out the entire team and left Jawun in. Treadmill time.

• Cameron McGriff did some things. Now 1-for-16 on posterizing dunk attempts in Maui.

• Dziagwa is a pretty dang good shooter, but I’m somewhat speechless how he’s getting playing time 5 minutes into a contest versus Georgetown. Maybe an indication of how the season should go: Rebuild, get young guys experience, and take the good with the bad.

• Phil Forte has a block against Georgetown; exceeding Mitch Solomon’s per game average.

• Favorable stat nugget 10 minutes into the game: Turnovers for Georgetown: 10. Turnovers for OSU: 1.

• Per Jay Bilas, Jawun Evans stats against top 5 teams: 31 ppg and 57 percent from the field. Time to start counting down the number of games we have left with him.

• N’Guessan may not be big, but he uses his slinder frame to wedge in between traffic. Seems to always be around the ball — collected two offensive rebounds on back-to-back sequences. Seems to really be coming along on offense.

• The lax coaching of JTIII vs. Underwood makes me very happy to be alive.

• Leyton Hammonds fouled out in every game in Maui. The downside of playing a 3 (or 4) at the 5 and going small in some lineups. Hustling, nonetheless, but he fouled out with 10 minutes left in the game. Gotta be smarter than that.

• My favorite sequence of the game: Jeffrey Carroll putback and the foul, followed by an incredible fist-pump from Brad Underwood in the background. This guy.

• A win over Georgetown is a good win, regardless of the level they’re playing. This one will be a good one that looks even better as we look back on it at the end of the season, particularly around Maaaaaaaaarch.

• Per the Oklahoma State athletics department, OSU’s 19 steals against Georgetown is a school record. They turned it over 28 times. #UndieBall
