Notebook: Pokes Take Near-Record 34 3-Pointers in Win Over Golden Hurricane

I dumped my five thoughts last night but thought I would empty the notebook on OSU’s comeback win over Tulsa. Here we go.

• If I ever become president (or Sports Czar) the first thing I will do is institute a law that says all color-on-color uniform matchups are not only OK but encouraged.

• OSU’s 34 3-point attempts is T4 all time. They took 39 against Grambling in 2008, 38 against UTSA in 2011 and 36 against KU last year.

• Carroll is such a terrific college basketball player. He hasn’t been great this year, or really just as good as he was last year, but he’s still fun as hell to watch and I’m already dreading him leaving next season.

• Sima runs well. Like, it is aesthetically pleasurable to watch him run up and down the floor. That sounds like a ludicrous thing to say out loud, but it’s a rarity for a big man.

• A thought I had tonight: “You kind of have to play Dziagwa, don’t you?”

• Another uni note: I’m in on the short shorts trend (TM Carroll and Kendall Smith).

• Shea Seals is on Tulsa’s staff — what a world!

• Bryndon Manzer talking about the eurostep reminded me of me talking to Kyle Boone about how to download Snapchat when Rickie Fowler went on SB2KWhatever a few years ago.

• I’m not sure if it was good news or bad news that OSU went 3-for-17 from 3 in the first half and was tied at the break.

• I’m in on Solomon’s jumper at the free throw line.

• We had a lengthy conversation on Slack during the middle of the second half about the time I went to Kelenna Azubukie’s birthday party when I was in elementary school.

• Manzer and Solomon. #RelationshipGoals

• I am never not stunned that Frank Haith went from Miami to Mizzou to Tulsa.

• OSU is the sneakiest top 60 3-point defense of all time. It always feels like they give up a lot of long bombs.

• OSU is now 211-8 (.963) in non-conference games in GIA.

• Dizzy on Curran Scott was the whitest matchup of all time. Dwight Schrute on Chandler Bing would have been less white.

• McGriff taking hold of the game with a bloody nose was a very Crime Dog move. Give me a team full of Lindys and Crime Dogs and I’m fully subscribed.

• Junior Etou was pretty good. He had a behind-the-back drive late that made me gasp out loud.

• OSU went spread motion late with Sima at the top of the key. I’m weak!

• Lol.

Both teams playing match up zone should be banned from college basketball. Makes the game unbelievably gross.

• Mitchell Solomon got compared to Nick Collison in the postgame and, shocker of shockers, he loved it.

• OSU is 73-38 all time against Tulsa.

“It’s just what my team needs. I try to make plays for my team. We’re all unselfish. Anything I can do to help my team, I’m going to do it. That’s a great honor (to be compared to called the Collison of OSU). I’ve liked watching him play. He stands for the right things on and off the court. That’s a great honor for me.”

• Carroll has scored in double figures in 34 of his last 41 games.
