Notebook: Takeaways from the First Day of Fall Camp
Before Thursday’s start of fall camp, I just wasn’t all that excited for football.
I’m not sure what it was, but throughout the summer I’ve stayed in more of a basketball frame of mind, but there is something about seeing the helmets, the little black beads scattered in the turf that get stuck in your shoe and oblong-shaped balls whisking through the air that’ll raise any warm-blooded #murican’s spirits.
We only got to hang out inside the Sherman E. Smith Training Center for about 20 minutes Thursday, so take that in mind as I share some thoughts on the first day of fall camp.
Brailford Coming from Everywhere?
Jordan Brailford seems to be having a good time with Jim Knowles’ 4-2-5 defense.
Brailford, a preseason All-Big 12 selection, was cheery after practice talking about the intensity Knowles brings, and Brailford also said he enjoys the freedom the new defensive scheme brings him.
“Personally, I like it a lot just ’cause I get to move a lot more than I did in the last defense we had,” Brailford said. “I’m at a lot more different positions than I was last year. It’s good for me, and a lot of other people playing my position, they like to stand up and run and blitz and stuff like that.”
Brailford is in his fifth year at OSU but still a redshirt junior after redshirting in 2014 and receiving a medical redshirt in 2016. He’s listed at 6-foot-3, 250 pounds. He said he is looking to gain some weight while chipping down his 16 percent body fat. He decided to go shirtless for his media availability yesterday, and I can confidently say, he can beat three of me up.
Chuba Ate Somebody
At Big 12 Media Days, Justice Hill said Chuba Hubbard has transformed from a track guy into a football guy over the summer, and it turns out he wasn’t kidding.
Hubbard added 17 pounds from his listed weight a season ago and is up to 207. With that being said I figured it was time for another #BodybyGlass #TransformationTuesdayFriday.
Here is Chuba on his visit.

Here he was Thursday.
Moore Needs to Eat Somebody
C.J. Moore didn’t have the luxury of summer workouts at OSU with Glass after shoring up some academic issues, and it showed at the Cowboys’ first practice.
In the long haul, this won’t be a big deal, as we were just talking about Hubbard’s transformation, but Moore came into camp at 6-5, 175. That weight makes him the fifth lightest receiver (of 17) on the team, but everyone below him is under 6-feet tall.

A Name I Keep Hearing
Landon Wolf.
In another stacked Kasey Dunn receiving corps, 2017 OSU Oustanding Walk-On Award recipient Landon Wolf is a name that gets thrown in with the likes of Tyron Johnson, Jalen McCleskey, Dillon Stoner and Patrick McKaufman.
“They make my life a lot easier,” quarterback Taylor Cornelius said. “Tyron Johnson, today, made several unbelievable catches. Patrick McKaufman, Stoner, Jalen, Tyan, Landon Wolf, we’re solid all around. I’m not worried about it.”
Wolf had a nice spring game that included a 51-yard touchdown. His stock has been on the rise since walking on from East Central High School in Tulsa, and it doesn’t look like the summer cooled it down any.
