Oklahoma State Is 100-1 To Win National Championship
The first CFB Playoff rankings are out, and Oklahoma State is No. 18. I think it sort of shows that the committee doesn’t care all that much about the fact that OSU “lost” to Central Michigan (or that it doesn’t much care about who anyone lost to — see: Penn State at No. 12).
Anyway, Westgate Superbook in Vegas came out with some new national championship odds on Tuesday, and I found them pretty interesting. This was before the CFB Playoff rankings were released.

Only 18 teams have odds of 100-1 or better.
At No. 18 OSU does have a chance I suppose. A team from nearly that slot has come all the way into the top four in both 2014 and 2015, but neither of those teams had two losses like OSU does (if the committee views it as two losses!)
Past two years, first rankings:
No. 15 Oklahoma got in.
No. 16 Ohio State got in.
So: Congratulations to Colorado or Utah!— Matt Brown (@MattBrownCFB) November 1, 2016
So yeah, Oklahoma State’s faint playoff hopes are probably dead after the first rankings event if Washington ejects and the Pac-12 is out of the CFB Playoff altogether. Either the Big 10 (five teams in the top 12!) or the SEC (five teams in the top 13) will get two teams in to go with one from the ACC.
Even if Oklahoma State (and probably even OU) wins out, the Big 12 is pretty likely to get shut out of the playoffs for the second time in three years. But at least we’re going to make a lot of money next year!
