Oklahoma State Basketball Agrees to Two-Year Series with Wichita State, Beginning in 2016
Brad Underwood isn’t exactly looking for a cakewalk in his first season at the helm in Stillwater- On Friday, Mark Cooper of the Tulsa World broke that Oklahoma State and Wichita State scheduled a two year, home and home series starting this season. The Cowboys will kick off the series heading to Wichita-
#OKState & Wichita State have scheduled a home-and-home series starting this year.
• Dec. 17 at Intrust Arena, Wichita
• Dec. 9, 2017 in GIA— Mark Cooper (@mark_cooperjr) June 10, 2016
While the Shockers will lose four starters from their 2015-2016 squad that won two games in the NCAA tournament, before bowing out to 3 seed Miami 65-57. However, any Gregg Marshall coached team will be tough, and Intrust Bank Arena in Wichita rivals just about any road venue in the Big 12, sans Allen Fieldhouse. The last time the Cowboys faced the Shockers was 2002, Oklahoma State downed Wichita State 68-58. The matchup makes sense as the Shockers play just a few hours up the road, and should make for a very entertaining mini-series.
OSU has already planned a challenging non-conference schedule that includes:
• A trip to Maryland on December 3rd to complete their home and home series with the Terrapins.
• Hosting Mike Anderson and his uptempo Arkansas squad at GIA as part of the SEC/Big 12 challenge
• The brutal Maui Invitational Nov. 21-23rd, joining a loaded field of North Carolina, Oregon, Wisconsin, Georgetown, Tennessee, UConn, and Chaminade.
The Cowboys, lead by their backcourt of sophomore point guard Jawun Evans and senior Phil Forte, will be battle-tested come time for Big 12 play in January, having played multiple tournament teams early in the year: however, this may turn out to be a big advantage for Underwood and the Pokes come tournament time, if they can steal a few big victories.
