Oklahoma State Gifted First Down It Didn’t Get Against Kansas State That Led to TD
This is … not good.
Hey Texas, this is what a bad call looks like.
At the end of the second quarter on a third and six, Mason Rudolph completed a pass to David Glidden who got to Kansas State’s 45ish yard line. That means it needed to Kansas State’s 34Â yard line for a first down. This is what the next play looked like.
On that play, Rudolph went deep to Jhajuan Seales with a dime. It was called back for a hold. OSU ran three more plays. The third was this pass to Marcell Ateman who was tackled at the 39 yard line.
OSU was given a first down on this play.
No matter what, OSU had to get to the 35 yard line, right? No matter what happened or what the TV said or what the plays were, the yard line you have to get to doesn’t change.
Even the ESPN play-by-play feed was confused. Look at this. There was no 4th down but that’s how it was interpreted because Ateman clearly didn’t make it to the 34.
OSU was given the first down anyway and scored a few plays later to make it 28-20. A gift, for sure. And an egregious gaffe by the officials.[1. Although it would have been 4th and 4 and OSU probably would have gone for it anyway.]
