Oklahoma State offers 2017 QB Myles Brennan

Things just got very interesting on the recruiting trail for Oklahoma State. The Cowboys have one commitment in the 2017 class at quarterback, in 6-foot-7 Jelani Woods. And it appears they are now targeting a second signal-caller to come in on scholarship in the recruiting class, extending an offer to Myles Brennan, a record-setting prospect from Mississippi.

Brennan picked up his offer from OSU yesterday, and today, announced that he was backing away from his commitment to the LSU Tigers, where had originally committed during the Les Miles era.

Brennan made a visit to Stillwater 8 months ago, coming away without an offer — but it was clear interest was mutual after his visit. “It feels like one big family. They’re definitely a great fit,” Brennan told me after his visit, adding that he could “definitely see himself fitting in here in Stillwater pretty well.”

Brennan made a 12-hour drive on his own dime to see Stillwater on an unofficial basis. OSU went in a different direction and accepted a commitment from Woods, a dual-threat QB from Ellenwood, Georgia, however, one source tells me that with former walk-on Nyc Burns leaving, the quarterback recruiting has taken a turn — and the goal is to take two quarterbacks in the 2017 class.

At 6-foot-3, 185-pounds, Brennan fits the mold of a pocket passer that would complement Woods in the class to round out a good core. He is an Under Armour All-American, and four-star prospect who also attended the Elite 11 earlier this year, where the group of top quarterbacks gather to compete.

On LSU’s end, it appears head coach Ed Orgeron has apparently elected to take a dual-threat quarterback to run the offense, with Lowell Narcisce committed in the class, and the Tigers extending an offer to Alabama commit Tua Tagovailoa. With rumors that LSU may be targetting Lane Kiffin as the new OC, things opened up for Brennan. And it appears at the moment, Oklahoma State has stolen the recruiting momentum.

With Brennan’s offer now on the table, don’t be surprised to see, if he does pick OSU, a decision to be made in the coming weeks. All his previous offers were handed out and may not still be on the table, but OSU’s may be the most “committable” at the moment. It will be interesting to see what, if any, impact it has on Jelani Woods and the rest of the class if things work out between OSU and Brennan.
