Oklahoma State Picked Third In 2016 Big 12 Preseason Poll
The Big 12 preseason media poll was revealed on Thursday, and Oklahoma State was picked to finish third behind OU and TCU and just ahead of Baylor and Texas.
Here’s a look at how all 10 shook out (points are awarded 10 for a first place pick, nine for a second .. and so on. There were 26 voters so a perfect score would be 260).
Rank | Team | Points (1st place votes) |
1 | Oklahoma | 258 (24) |
2 | TCU | 222 (2) |
3 | Oklahoma State | 202 |
4 | Baylor | 156 |
5 | Texas | 151 |
6 | Texas Tech | 141 |
7 | West Virginia | 126 |
8 | Kansas State | 88 |
9 | Iowa State | 59 |
10 | Kansas | 27 |
I’m not sure how Kansas did not get 26 votes to finish last. Somebody picked them to finish ninth? Who and why? Also, Kansas State is probably going to win the league now that they have been picked to finish 8th. Might be the only team in Big 12 history to have five All-Big 12 first team players and an eighth place pick.
I’m fine with OSU being picked third. That’s probably on average where they would finish if this season was played 1,000 times. Plus you get to play the “nobody believes in us” card a little bit longer. Obviously nobody has any clue what to do with Baylor. I think they’re still going to be pretty good this year. It might drop off hard after that, but they have too much talent to go 6-6 this year.
Last year the Pokes were picked to finish fourth. In 2014 they were picked fifth and in 2013 they were picked to win the conference. More on those numbers and whether OSU is traditionally overrated or underrated a little bit later on.
