Oklahoma State quarterback Alan Bowman on Thursday was included on the watch list for the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year. The award was the first in college football to focus primarily on a player’s leadership ability and recognize their exceptional courage, integrity and sportsmanship. Bowman was one of 52 players on the watch list for the award’s eighth year.

Bowman has been an advocate for mental health during his time at OSU. He partnered with Access Scholarships to award a $1,000 “Sack the Stigma” scholarship to a student who recognizes the importance of speaking out about mental health, he works alongside the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health to help create awareness for the 988 Oklahoma Mental Health Lifeline and he speaks to youth groups about the importance of mental health. He also volunteers to help raise money for Cowboys vs. Cancer. In the classroom, Bowman, who already has a master’s degree, was on the CSC Academic All-District Team last year.

On the field, Bowman took over as the Cowboys’ starting quarterback Week 4 and led them to the Big 12 championship game. This season, through four games, he’s 91-of-145 for 1,173 passing yards 10 touchdowns. He’s currently 12th in all of FBS in passing yards.

Three finalists for the award will be announced Dec. 16 and the winner will be revealed Feb. 12 at a ceremony at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.

Bowman was also on the watch list for the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy, another award that focuses on off-the-field contributions. The Wuerffel Trophy is “college football’s premier award for community service and one of the most meaningful awards in collegiate sports,” according to the award’s website.
