West Virginia’s unplanned coaching change could lead Tre Mitchell to play for a third Big 12 team in as many seasons.

Mitchell, a 6-foot-9, 225-pound stretch forward, reportedly entered the transfer portal on Friday after longtime WVU coach Bob Huggins resigned following a reported DUI. Mitchell has reportedly already heard from myriad programs with Oklahoma State being among the group, according to Adam Zagoria, along with Kentucky, Kansas State, Memphis and others. Mitchell is set to visit Kentucky this weekend, according to 247Sports Travis Branham.

Mitchell played just one season in Morgantown after transferring from Texas. He also played just one season in Austin after transferring from UMass, where he played two seasons. WVU players were given a 30-day window to enter the portal following Huggins’ sudden resignation.

Playing in 34 games for the Mountaineers last season, Mitchell averaged 11.7 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists. He also shot 36% from 3-point range on 99 attempts. He is a career 35% 3-point shooter on 297 attempts.

In two games against Oklahoma State last season, Mitchell averaged 19 points a game, dropping 16 on the Pokes in Stillwater before pouring in 22 in the game in Morgantown.

Mike Boynton and his staff have hit the transfer portal hard this offseason, bringing in Javon Small (East Carolina), Isaiah Miranda (NC State), Jarius Hicklen (North Florida) and Mike Marsh (Jacksonville). But even with that group and five incoming freshmen, the Cowboys still have a scholarship open.
