The coaches and media are just about in lockstep as it pertains to the Cowboys heading into the 2024 season.

The preseason AP Poll released Monday, which saw Oklahoma State at No. 17 in the country. The preseason Coaches Poll released last week that had the Cowboys at No. 18.

Where the two polls do differ, though, is on the order of the Big 12. Both have Utah as the best team in the conference — the media have the Utes at No. 12  and the coaches at No. 13. The Coaches Poll has Kansas State as the next team up, but the media give the second spot in the Big 12 to the Pokes. It’s close either way you slice it. Kansas State is No. 17 in the Coaches Poll and No. 18 in the Media Poll. OSU is the inverse of that.

Here is a look at both polls in full:

AP Poll Coaches Poll
1 Georgia (46) Georgia (46)
2 Ohio State (15) Ohio State (7)
3 Oregon (1) Oregon
4 Texas Texas (1)
5 Alabama Alabama
6 Ole Miss Ole Miss
7 Notre Dame Notre Dame
8 Penn State Michigan (1)
9 Michigan Penn State
10 Florida State Florida State
11 Missouri Missouri
12 Utah LSU
13 LSU Utah
14 Clemson Clemson
15 Tennessee Tennessee
16 Oklahoma Oklahoma
17 Oklahoma State Kansas State
18 Kansas State Oklahoma State
19 Miami (FL) Miami (FL)
20 Texas A&M Texas A&M
21 Arizona Arizona
22 Kansas NC State
23 USC USC
24 North Carolina Kansas
25 Iowa Iowa

As far as the rest of the Big 12 goes, the AP Poll is similar to the Coaches Poll. Arizona is the fourth conference school, with both polls listing the Wildcats at No. 21. Kansas is actually up two spots in the AP Poll from where the Jayhawks were in the Coaches Poll, listed at No. 22 and No. 24, respectively.

Iowa State, West Virginia and Colorado were all in the AP Poll’s receiving votes category. The Cyclones would be No. 30 in an expanded poll, with the Mountaineers at No. 33 and the Buffaloes at No. 42.
