Oklahoma State, Wichita State Agree to Four-Year Hardwood Series
The Cowboys extend a fun, mutually beneficial nonconference series.
Oklahoma State’s home-and-home series with Wichita State in 2017 and 2018 proved beneficial, and competitive, for both teams. The series was split 1-1 and left fans of hoops within the region clamoring for more.
More you shall get.
The program announced Monday the two programs have agreed to a four-year (!) hardwood series to re-up the regional rivalry beginning in 2019 and running through 2022. The series will begin with Wichita State visiting OSU in 2019 and then again in 2021; OSU will make the trip to Wichita in 2020 and 2022.
Here are the scheduled dates:
Dec. 8, 2019 – Stillwater (Gallagher-Iba Arena)
Dec. 12, 2020 – Wichita (Intrust Bank Arena)
Dec. 5, 2021 – Stillwater (Gallagher-Iba Arena)
Dec. 10, 2022 – Wichita (TBA)
OSU won the first of the two most recent home-and-homes going away, 93-76 on the road, in what turned out to be Brad Underwood’s first and only season in Stillwater. Last year the Shockers returned the favor by ousting the Pokes 78-66 in GIA.
The Pokes, under second-year coach Mike Boynton, may go through some growing pains in this upcoming season. They were picked to finish last in the league this season, and are replacing four of their top five scorers from a season ago. The same could be said for the Shockers, who lost their top four scorers from last season.
By 2019, however, after both wade through reset years, this matchup could have plenty of luster.
