Oklahoma State Will Face Texas A&M in Legends Classic
The Oklahoma State basketball team will open the 2017 Legends Classic in Brooklyn (Mike Boynton’s hometown!) at the Barclays Center against former Big 12 opponent Texas A&M on Nov. 20, it was announced on Monday.
The last time that the two teams played each other was in 2012, when the Cowboys defeated the Aggies, 60-42, in Stillwater. Brian Williams led all scorers that game with 17 points, and Keiton Page chipped in 15. OSU has a 31-17 all-time record against Texas A&M, including a 5-2 neutral-site record.
Two seasons removed from a Sweet Sixteen appearance and first-place finish in the conference, the Aggies are coming off a 16-15 season under head coach Billy Kennedy. The Aggies will also play the Big 12’s West Virginia and Kansas in their non-conference schedule, while the Cowboys will play SEC’s Arkansas.
“Our goal will always be to put together a non-conference schedule that prepares our team to compete in the nation’s toughest basketball conference while giving Cowboy fans an exciting slate of games they can look forward to, and I think we’ve done just that,” coach Mike Boynton said earlier this year.
“Our team will take the court against nationally respected squads, regional rivals, as well as a host of opponents that will help our team gel and young players adjust to the rigors of college basketball. I’m excited for the upcoming season, and to have Gallagher-Iba Arena rocking again.”
Pittsburgh and Penn State, the two other participants in the tournament, will square off on Nov. 21, with the winner of each semifinal advancing to the final round.
