The Cowboys made the cut for one of the top playmakers in the state.

Witt Edwards, a 2024 four-star athlete from Wagoner, released his Top 8 on Friday, and Oklahoma State made the cut.

The 6-foot-5, 200-pound two-way player makes plays at wide receiver, outside linebacker and even some at defensive back for Wagoner High School. A look at Edwards’ junior season film shows a big-bodied receiver with the ability to do damage after the catch — and the willingness to hit somebody. That’s an enticing combo. Edwards mentioned OSU safety coach Dan Hammerschmidt when he announced his offer, meaning OSU might view the in-state standout as a defender at the next level, though Edwards also mentioned OSU tight ends coach Jason McEndoo in an earlier tweet.

Edwards is a four-star prospect according to 247 Sports, the No. 21 athlete in the class and the second-ranked Oklahoma recruit. He’s ranked as a three-star prospect by both Rivals and On3.

The Cowboys represented Edwards’ fifth offer when they extended in late February. Beating the Pokes to the punch on the in-state prospect was Iowa State, which offered him on Feb. 4. The Cyclones also made the list, along with TCU, Tennessee, Houston, Vanderbilt, Tulsa and Central Arkansas. He’s reportedly took official visits to Houston, TCU and Vanderbilt during the month of June.

Another Wrestler from Wagoner

We know Mike Gundy loves to recruit talented wrestlers to his football team, but this could be the continuation of an in-state pipeline. Edwards placed third in the Oklahoma 4A State Championships in February at 215 pounds. Current Detroit Lions linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez came to OSU after winning two state titles for Wagoner. And his younger brother, Gabriel Rodriguez also wrestled for Wagoner and will be a true freshman in Stillwater this fall.
