Entering the Big 12 tournament, a pair of Cowboy pitchers have earned all-conference honors.

Harrison Bodendorf was named Big 12 Co-Newcomer of the Year while also earning a spot on the All-Big 12 First Team. Sean Youngerman earned two All-Big 12 Second Team selections — one as a starting pitcher and one as a relief pitcher.

Colin Brueggemann, Ian Daugherty, Mario Pesca, Nolan Schubart and Brayden Smith each earned All-Big 12 honorable mentions.

A lefty transfer from Hawaii, Bodendorf has a 2.43 ERA with a team-high 96 strikeouts in 81 1/3 innings pitched this season. The Cowboys have won the past four games Bodendorf has pitched in, which has helped the Pokes climb back into the NCAA Tournament discussion.

Most recently, Bodendorf threw seven innings against Arizona State this past weekend, where he gave up a lone run on five hits while striking out eight Sun Devils. In his past three outings combined, Bodendorf has pitched 21 innings and allowed two runs off 14 hits while walking five and striking out 22.

Bodendorf’s 10 wins this season lead all Big 12 pitchers, and his ERA ranks second among qualifiers in the league. Bodendorf has thrown the third-most innings among Big 12 pitchers while allowing the third-fewest runs among qualifiers.

He shares the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year honor with Arizona State’s Matt King, a UTSA transfer hitting .401 entering the conference tournament.

A right-hander who transferred from Westmont College in California, Youngerman has a 2.08 ERA, which is best among Cowboys who have thrown at least three innings this season. In 47 2/3 innings of work, Youngerman has a .184 batting average against and has struck out 54 to only six walks.

Entering April, Youngerman had only thrown more than two innings in two games before a breakout start against Kansas State on April 6. That day, Youngerman led the Cowboys to a win after throwing eight innings where he didn’t allow a run or a walk while striking out 11. OSU was 12-14 entering that series with the Wildcats but has since gone 15-8. OSU has lost only one game that Youngerman has thrown in since the start of April.

The Cowboys are on the bubble entering the Big 12 Championship this weekend in Arlington. OSU enters the tournament as the No. 7 seed and will play 10 seed Baylor at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Globe Life Field. OSU went 2-1 against the Bears earlier this month in a three-game series. The loss came in extras, and OSU finished the series having outscored Baylor 15-7.
