The Cowboys answered in a battle for second in the Big 12 standings.

Oklahoma State walloped Kansas State 19-5 on Saturday in O’Brate Stadium after a tightly contested Game 1 on Friday that went the Wildcats’ way. It’s a continuation of a dominant stretch of offense for the Pokes, a team averaging 13.2 runs a game in the month of May.

Six Cowboys had multiple hits Saturday, with Tyler Wulfert leading the way with four. He finished 4-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Wulfert had an 11-game hit streak that ended Friday night, but he started anew in a big way Saturday.

Chase Adkison had another remarkable performance, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and four RBIs. Since April 15, Adkison is hitting .426 with 19 RBIs.

The Cowboys hit three home runs Saturday, with Adkison going yard in the fourth before Marcus Brown and Roc Riggio did so in the sixth. Riggio’s team lead in round-trippers is up to 17. Kansas State also had three homers, with all of them coming in the fourth inning.

Ben Abram got the start on the mound for the Pokes, going three innings where he allowed four runs off six hits. Bayden Root, Gabe Davis and Brian Hendry combined to throw the final six innings, combining to allow one run off five hits.

With the result, the Cowboys and ‘Cats move back into a tie for second in the Big 12 at 12-8. As of writing, first place West Virginia (13-6) has an early lead on Texas Tech.

OSU and K-State will conclude their series Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
