OSU Baseball: Cowboys Drop Season-Opener at Sam Houston 7-2
The Cowboys fell in Huntsville to start their 2024 season.
The Cowboys started their weekend (and their season) with a loss.
No. 21 Oklahoma State fell to Sam Houston 7-2 on Friday, falling to 0-1 to start opening weekend in Huntsville.
The Pokes fell behind 2-0 in the first after giving up RBIs to Sam Houston’s Walker Janek and Malachi Lott. OSU tied it up in the top of the fifth inning thanks to a sac-fly by Zach Ehrhard and then an unearned run on a Carson Benge fly ball that was dropped. But the Bearcats answered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, a run in the sixth and two more in the seventh to go up 7-2.
Beau Sylvester went 2-for-4, and Lane Forsythe 1-for-2. Ehrhard went 0-for-3 with that RBI on a sac-fly. Benge went 0-for-4, but the Cowboys’ second run came off his bat. He also made a nice diving catch in right field.

Left-hander Sam Garcia took the loss in his OSU debut, pitching 4 1/3 innings and allowing four runs but striking out four. Evan O’Toole and Tommy Molsky each got a try to stop the bleeding, giving up one and two runs, respectively. Kyle Bade and Aaron Weber split the ninth inning, holding the Bearcats scoreless.
