Marquette went 18-12 last season but faces a rebuilding year in 2020 after losing Markus Howard, who last season led the NCAA in scoring by averaging 27.8 points per game. The Golden Eagles also lose their second leading scorer, Sacar Anim, to graduation.
The OSU-Marquette pairing is one of the better ones in the battle, with Villanova-Texas, Baylor-Creighton and Kansas-Creighton shaping up as the marquee matchups. Baylor, Villanova, Kansas and Creighton will likely enter next season as preseason top-10 teams.
Oklahoma State and Marquette last faced off in 2007 at the Maui Invitational, where Marquette won — no, trounced — Oklahoma State in a 91-61 final. Outside of that outcome, OSU has won four of the last five in the series.
