OSU Football: Six Cowboys on Preseason All-Big 12 Team

Preseason Big 12 lists continue to roll out with media days only a week away.

The conference on Tuesday released its Preseason All-Big 12 Team, with six Oklahoma State players making the cut. The offensive team included running back Ollie Gordon, wide receiver Brennan Presley, and offensive linemen Dalton Cooper and Joe Michalski. Gordon was also named Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. On defense, it was linebackers Nick Martin and Colin Oliver.

Gordon getting preseason hype is a surprise to no one after he won the Doak Walker Award for the best running back in the country and was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year last season. He was also an unanimous All-American after leading the nation with 1,732 rushing yards and 21 rushing touchdowns. Gordon was scheduled to be a representative for OSU at next week’s Big 12 Football Media Days, but that might not be the case now after it was reported Monday night that Gordon was arrested early Sunday morning. As of writing, OSU or Gordon haven’t publicly commented on the situation. That situation might also dwindle further preseason hype surrounding Gordon.

Presley made the preseason All-Big 12 team for the second year in a row entering his sixth and final season as a Cowboy. He was a second-team All-Big 12 selection at the end of last season after catching 101 passes for 991 yards and six touchdowns. Presley is still searching for his first 1,000-yard season.

The offensive line made up half OSU’s offensive selections. Entering his sixth season, Cooper has 49 career starts under his belt. Michalski, also a redshirt senior, has started 23 games. He emerged as one of the Cowboys’ best big men last season, earning honorable mention honors for Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year.

On defense, OSU’s linebacker group is already getting recognition because of Martin and Oliver. Martin last season led the Big 12 in tackles with 140. He was named an All-American after only his first season as a starter. Oliver was a second team All-Big 12 honoree in 2021 and 2023. Martin and Oliver are scheduled to represent OSU at media days next week.

Preseason honors will continue to come with Big 12 Football Media Days approaching on July 9-10 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The conference also released its preseason poll earlier Tuesday, with the Cowboys ranked third.
