It’s still early, but Mike Boynton is building a fairly enticing 2020-21 nonconference schedule.

Oklahoma State will host ACC foe Virginia Tech this upcoming season, according to CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein. The Cowboys will then travel to Blacksburg in the 2021-22 season. Rothstein also gave the caveat that the game this year could be in Oklahoma City.

Last week, Rothstein also reported that OSU would play Louisville in the Armed Forces Classic. In a radio interview, new Iona coach Rick Pitino also mentioned that his squad was scheduling to play OSU in Madison Square Garden, though he didn’t specify the year that game would happen.

The Hokies and Pokes have met four times with Virginia Tech winning each game.

The teams first met in the 76 Classic in California in 2010. Jean-Paul Olukemi scored a game-high 17 points, but the Cowboys fell 56-51.

OSU and VT met twice the following season. The first meeting of the year came in the NIT Season Tip-Off where the Hokies won 59-57. Then the teams played a traditional nonconference game in Stillwater about a month later, where VT won 67-61.

OSU entered the teams’ 2012 matchup ranked 15th in the country, but the Hokies upset Marcus Smart an Co. in Blacksburg when Erick Green dropped 28 points.

The Hokies finished this past season 16-16 in coach Mike Young’s first year. Their leading scorer, Landers Nolley II, has since announced his decision to transfer from the program, though, after averaging 15.5 points a game.

Young has recruited well. The Hokies have the No. 19 class with top 100 recruits Joe Bamisile and Darius Maddox coming in. VT is also bringing in a transfer with experience against OSU in Cartier Diarra, who transferred out of Kansas State.
