Oklahoma State’s coaching staff made its first official move at quarterback in the 2026 cycle this week with an offer out to a rising star in Brady Smigiel of Newbury Park, Calif. Smigiel is a 6-foot-5, 190-pound prospect who — because he is a 2026 prospect — is not yet ranked. However, take a glance at his offers and you’ll see why he’s already regarded as one of the most touted recruits of his class.

Among those who have offered along with OSU include Florida State, Georgia, Michigan, Penn State, Colorado, Arizona and Arizona State. He’s coming off a stellar freshman season in which he completed 66% of his passes for 3,467 yards and 51 total touchdowns at Newbury Park High School.

Offers for Smigiel have been rolling in literally for years — Arizona offered in 2021 — and he has long been regarded as a prodigious talent at QB. Players at his age who have the arm talent + size + trajectory of him are hard to come by. Last season MaxPreps said he was one of the best freshman QBs in the nation . . . and the highlights are hard to argue.

Even crazier is that Smigiel has been working toward elite status for years. I took a gander back at his old highlights, and these, from 2019 and 2020 (!), shows he’s had a pretty live arm for awhile even as a middle-schooler.

OSU was obviously sold on him to offer this early in the process. According to 247Sports’ database he is the first target for the Pokes at QB in the cycle and the third total offer behind in-state (Broken Arrow) running back KD Jones and Texas’ Dequane Prevo, both of whom were offered last month.
