OSU Reaches Out to Yale Grad Transfer Big Man Paul Atkinson
The reigning co-conference player of the year in the Ivy is on the market.
Oklahoma State is one of more than a dozen major conference teams to have already reached out to Yale transfer big man Paul Atkinson, the reigning Co-Player of the Year in the Ivy League who this week announced his intentions to graduate and transfer.
Atkinson, a 6-foot-10 power forward, averaged 17.6 points and 7.3 rebounds per game last season for Yale. He will graduate this spring and transfer in May, and has one year of eligibility remaining.
The Pokes join Duke, Arkansas, Maryland, Texas and …. basically every relevant program to have at least kicked the tires on the situation.
Oklahoma State is relatively thin in the frontcourt this season with Kalib Boone serving as the team’s only returning power forward or center who played meaningful minutes last year. So acquiring size, even if it’s for the future, is a worthwhile endeavor.
Looking ahead to the 2021-2022 season — and assuming no major changes — OSU would likely return the aforementioned Boone in addition to Bernard Kouma (a sophomore and first-year player this season) and Montreal Pena (a freshman this season).
