OSU expanded its search of guard depth ahead of the 2022-23 season earlier this week after reportedly contacting Coastal Carolina combo guard Rudi Williams shortly after he entered the transfer portal on Monday.

Williams spent the last season with Coastal where he averaged 14.7 points and shot 44.7% from 3-point range. The Pokes are among several schools to reach out along with Penny Hardaway’s Memphis program and Todd Golden’s Florida program.

Williams, a 6-foot-3, 180-pound combo guard, began his career at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M before playing his way into the Big 12. He signed with Kansas State in 2020 as a three-star prospect. With the Wildcats he lasted one season, though, after playing 18.2 minutes per game and averaging 4.8 points and 1.4 assists per game.

OSU is in need of guard depth after losing Bryce Williams and potentially Isaac Likekele as well. Guards Donovan Williams and Keylan Boone are also in the transfer portal. Williams could help account for the lost playmaking of that bunch as a former point guard prospect who can distribute the ball, and his outside shooting could also help OSU address a need after struggling to shoot it efficiently from long distance last season.
