STILLWATER — The Cowgirls put together a late two-out rally to earn a series win against Arizona and keep their hosting hopes alive.

Oklahoma State beat Arizona 7-5 on Sunday in Cowgirl Stadium. OSU’s winning runs came in the fifth when Audrey Schneidmiller homered to left. The two-run shot was her third of the season.

There was a big delay following the home run after the Arizona dugout wanted the umpires to take a look at whether someone from the dugout touched Schneidmiller before she touched home plate. The umpires had to crack a rulebook out. Gajewski said after the game he’d have argued for the call, too, if the roles were reversed, but the first instance is just a warning.

An Arizona error put them in some trouble in that inning. Tia Warsop was the at-bat before Schneidmiller. She bunted and was going to beat the throw to first, but then that ball ended in the right-field corner thanks to a skied throw, allowing the speedy Warsop to scoot all the way to third.

After throwing 293 pitches in a three-day span, Ruby Meylan earned a day off on Saturday. But she was back to throwing complete games on Sunday.

In 116 pitches, Meylan allowed the five runs (four earned) on six hits while walking one and striking out four

She took a line drive off her throwing hand in the seventh inning and was clearly in some pain. She tossed her glove to the ground and trotted toward the OSU dugout. You could hear a pin drop the in stadium as OSU’s staff attended to her, but she got back in the circle, threw a couple warmup pitches and gave a thumbs up to a nice cheer.

“Saw the season flashing in front of me just real quick,” OSU coach Kenny Gajewski said. “But when I saw her, the way she was moving, I was like, ‘OK, she’s able to at least move it,’ and she was able to do some things. …

“They felt right away it was OK. It was just gonna be a little sore.”

The game started with an exchange of haymakers.

Arizona plated four in the top of the first coming off an RBI single, a two-RBI double and a sac bunt.

It was enough to make you wonder if the Cowgirls were set for a similar fate from Saturday’s game, but they turned around and tied it up in the bottom of the inning.

Claire Timm had a leadoff bunt single before Karli Godwin drew a walk and Rosie Davis singled to load the bases. That brought up Lexi McDonald who doubled to left center, scoring a pair. She was pumped on second, hyping up her dugout.

That brought up Amanda Hasler who pulled a ball down the third-base line that actually hit off the bag and spilled into left field, scoring Davis.

Warsop then grounded into a double play, but McDonald was able to score from third and tie it up.

After that early outburst from both squads, no one scored again until the fourth when Timm hit a sac fly to score Warsop, giving the Cowgirls a 5-4 lead, but the Wildcats quickly responded with a two-out RBI double in the top of the fifth to tie it back up.

Warsop continued her hot streak, going 2-for-3 at the dish with two runs scored and an RBI. In the past four games (one against OU and three against Arizona), Warsop is 8-for-14 (.571) with three runs scored and five RBIs.

It’s win No. 30 for the Cowgirls, as they are 30-12 and 11-7 in Big 12 play. OSU entered the day at No. 19 in the RPI. RPI isn’t a one-for-one telling of who 16 NCAA Regional hosts will be, but it’s a solid data point to show that OSU is right there on the edge.

It’s another big week upcoming as OSU will go to Texas (No. 2 in RPI) on Wednesday before staying down in the Lone Star State for a three-game series against Baylor (No. 46 in the RPI).

“I wish I could take a breath, but we got Texas next — and then Baylor,” Gajewski said. “There’s no rest for the weary, but it feels good. I’m gonna sleep good tonight, I can tell you that. I didn’t sleep great last night. My little one woke up about 4 a.m., and then I was a little anxious. I already knew I was gonna come in a little early today. I’m tired, too, to be honest. But I’m gonna enjoy this with my family, and I’m gonna go mow. So that’ll be awesome. Just let my brain kind of decompress.

“But I’m thrilled with these kids. And I’m really happy — our staff. Our staff is grinding, and they’re doing some good things. I thought the way we’re playing, the way we’re shifting and doing things, it’s paying off.”
