OSU Softball: Cowgirls Beat No. 16 Florida 3-0 in Bonus Monday Night Game
With stingy defense by Kiilfoyl and Co., the Cowgirls needed just one swing to blank the Gators.
The Cowgirls’ final two games of the Clearwater Invitational were cancelled due to weather conditions. So while they were in the Sunshine State, why not take on another ranked opponent?
No. 6 Oklahoma State defeated No. 16 Florida 3-0 in an add-on game Monday night. The Cowgirls travelled 150 miles north from where they were stationed in Clearwater to Gainesville to face a familiar foe, and they came out on top.
The Cowgirls did all of their offensive damage in the third inning — actually they did it all in one swing — but that was enough.
Touted freshman Karli Godwin stepped to the plate with two outs. She had amassed a 2-2 count when she swung for the fence on this one, nailing a three-run homer beyond left field. It was her first HR of the season.

After a rough weekend, Cowgirls ace Lexi Kilfoyl was nails on Monday night.
After going 1-2 in Clearwater with losses to Georgia and LSU, she moved to 4-2 on the season with a complete game against the Gators. Kilfoyl pitched a shutout in a season-high seven innings, allowing just three hits and striking out six (another season high).

And she had some help from her defense. The Cowgirls’ defense was able to shut a ranked team out despite its offense recording one less hit (two) and six Cowgirls being struck out.

The win moves the Cowgirls to 7-2 on the year and 4-4 all-time against Florida. Kenny Gajewski is 4-2 against his former team. He spent three years as an assistant in Gainesville before taking the head coaching job at OSU.
Next Up
The Cowgirls will remain in Florida until their Wednesday night matchup with Stetson in Deland. Then they’ll head to Tampa for the South Florida Showdown, which runs Thursday-Saturday. OSU will start off against South Florida at 5:30 p.m. CST on Thursday.
