OSU Softball: Cowgirls Rebound from Loss to Louisiana Tech with a Run-Rule Win against Northern Colorado

OSU splits Friday’s games at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge.

After a Top 10 win over Florida State the day before, the Cowgirls split their two games on Friday in Mexico.

No. 4 Oklahoma State fell to Louisiana Tech 6-1 before rebounding for an 8-0 run-rule win over Norther Colorado.

The Cowgirls nearly got blanked in Game 1 thanks to a dominant performance by La Tech pitcher Allie Floyd and a couple of errors by OSU.

After both teams went scoreless in the first, Louisiana Tech took a commanding 4-0 lead in the second inning thanks to scores on two walks and two unearned runs on a fielder’s choice. Floyd held the Cowgirls scoreless until Macy Graf scored on a Micaela Wark single in the top of the sixth to make it 4-1, but the Bulldogs answered with a pair of single runs in the bottom of the sixth to push their lead to 6-1.

OSU’s Kyra Adcock got the start and took the L, pitching just one and a third inning, walking four and give up those four runs. RyLee Crandall finished the game allowing two more but striking out four.

In Game 2, the Cowgirls flipped the script with a couple of encouraging performances from inside the circle.

Cal State-Fullerton transfer Megan Delgadillo went 4-for-4, scoring three runs to go with an RBI. She was the first Cowgirl across the plate after Tia Warsop stole second allowing Delgadillo to steal third and then score on a throwing error. Warsop, a sophomore, was 3-for-4.

Karli Godwin went 2-for-2 with three RBIs including this two-run single.

Claire Timm drove in the coffin nail in the bottom of the sixth, sending Godwin across home plate.


On defense, sophomore Rosie Davis made her bid for a SportsCenter spot with this athletic diving catch.

And sophomore Katie Kutz got the start and the W, pitching four and one third innings logging three strikeouts, allowing three hits and walking three. After that scoreless outing, she made way for newcomer Ruby Meylan, the All-American Washington transfer. Meylan followed up her win from Thursday by closing out the final one and two third innings with three strikeouts, no hits and no walks.

 

The Cowgirls will finish off the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge with a rematch against Florida State at 7 p.m. on Saturday at Nancy Almaraz Field.
