The Cowgirls extended their season-worst loss streak to five with a pair of road losses on Saturday.

No. 3 Oklahoma State fell to No. 7 Texas 3-2 and then 5-2 in a doubleheader Saturday in Austin. Those Ls followed a 1-0 defeat to the Longhorn on Friday evening and a midweek loss to No. 23 Wichita State.

Runs were hard to come by. While the Longhorns earned their series-opening win by way of an extra-inning pitchers’ dual, they were able to get three runs with one swing of the bat twice Saturday, and that proved to be the difference in each game.

The Cowgirls scored runs in the third and sixth to take a 2-0 lead into the final frame. But UT’s Reese Atwood hit a walk-off three-run homer to left center to take Game 1, handing Kelly Maxwell (now 13-2) her second loss of the year. She struck out nine and allowed just one walk and three hits, but that last one was a big one.

In Game 2, the Cowgirls went with Kyra Aycock in the circle. She received her first loss of the season (now 8-1) allowing five runs in five innings and walking one and striking out two more. Texas scored a run each in the second and third before Leighann Goode’s single in the fifth scored three Longhorns and put OSU in a 5-run hole.

After falling behind 5-0, the Cowgirls scored two runs in the top of the sixth on a Texas error. OSU loaded the bases in the first inning but couldn’t get anything out of it. OSU left seven batters on base to UT’s two.

With the losses, the Cowgirls fall to 39-8 (8-4 in the Big 12). It’s OSU’s longest losing streak this season and placed the Cowgirls a step behind Texas at third in the league. They’re back in action on Friday, April 28.
