OSU Softball Has a Random Twitter Beef With its Upcoming Super Regional Foe

#BatFlipU is headed to Seminole country.

The unfortunate thing about Twitter beefs is that they rarely come to fruition.

On Saturday, after dispatching BYU and Tulsa three combined games to none in their own regional in Stillwater, Oklahoma State’s softball team punched its Super Regional ticket. On Sunday, the Cowgirls learned that they’d be headed to Tallahassee to face defending national champs Florida State.

This one just came to fruition.

During her one season in Stillwater, Samantha Show has done a lot for OSU softball. Her current count of 18 home runs is an Oklahoma State record and is tied for tops in the Big 12 with OU’s Sydney Romero. She also leads the league in RBIs (54) and is third in wins on the mound (19) and top 5 in saves (2), landing her on the all-conference first team.

But she also brought a moniker to Stillwater: #BatFlipU

Plenty of Show’s home runs have come with a polarizing parting gift, the much-bemoaned bat flip for which she has become famous.

Earlier this season while the Cowgirls were in Eugene to sweep Oregon, a particular bat flip drew national attention.

And the legend continues to grow, even during this past weekend’s regional.

But as old people with yards are prone to do, some traditionalists have strongly insisted that Show stay off of theirs.

A member of Florida State’s coaching staff took a low-key Twitter shot at Show and OSU.

That made this hilarious video tweeted out on Monday an instant classic. Kudos to OSU for leaning in.

But the rivalry runs even deeper than that. Earlier this month, the team’s Twitter account tagged them “Cardiac Cowgirls” based on their affinity for come-from-behind wins and tying into the “Cardiac Cowboys” moniker that OSU’s football program has made famous for the past several years for taking years off of all of our lives doing the same.

But members of the soon-to-be opposition took offense.

Little did I (nor did the Cowgirls, I’m sure) know, but that heartfelt adjective had been recently used by the Seminoles, who were donned the “Cardiac Kids.” I might be biased but the former seems to roll off the tongue a little easier.

Either way, this type of rivalry is great for college sports, especially those that don’t get the attention they deserve, like softball. These two programs matching up for a chance at a trip to OKC for the College World Series couldn’t have worked out better had it all been planned.

Oklahoma State begins their Super Regional series with Florida State on Thursday at 6 p.m. in Tallahassee, which runs through Saturday.
