For the wrestling laymen, freestyle — which is what Daton Fix is wrestling Saturday — is a little different than collegiate wrestling. Greco, which is what these guys are doing Friday, is scored the same as freestyle, but all upper body.
Here’s a breakdown of the tournament from Flo.
Basically there will be a tournament wrestled and the winner of the tournament will wrestle each of these guys in a best-of-three final to decide who represents the US at the Junior World Championships. With these two already in the final because of their wins at the US Open they just have to wrestle the best of three finals Friday afternoon at 3 pm Eastern Time-2 PM Central Time.
Hughes and Harris are both young and making a World Team at this age would be a great experience for them and do a lot for their development. They’ve already been doing some training at the Olympic Training Center this summer and will have a lot more of that type of work available to them if they can win here, so this could be really big for them to win here.
