What a start.

Oklahoma State commenced its East Coast road trip with a 31-6 win against No. 15 Pitt on Friday night to improve the No. 5 Cowboys to 6-0. Four of OSU’s six dual wins this season have been away from Stillwater. The Cowboys also now have four wins over ranked opponents.

From Troy Spratley’s pin at 125 pounds, to Konner Doucet’s top-10 win at heavyweight, and even Sammy Alvarez’ debut in between, it wasn’t just a solid start for the Cowboys. Spratley stuck Colton Camacho in the third period to prompt the Cowboys winning the first six matches of the dual, four of which were bonus-point victories as OSU led 24-0 after the 165-pound match over halfway through.

Freshman Brayden Thompson was the first Cowboy to lose to 15th-ranked Luca Augustine 2-1 at 174. The loss ended a four-match winning streak for Thompson after starting his college career 0-3. In his first match back since getting injured Dec. 1, 12th-ranked Luke Surber lost to No. 15 Mac Stout 5-2 at 197.

After Spratley’s pin started the dual, Daton Fix followed with an 11-0 major decision over No. 18 Vinnie Santaniello. Sammy Alvarez was the next to notch bonus points in his OSU debut. Alvarez, a transfer from Rutgers, beat Finn Solomon 12-4 in his first dual appearance since arriving in Stillwater last January midway through last season. He’s 14-3 this season while competing in open tournaments, plus the one dual, with two of his losses coming to teammates Tagen Jamison and Carter Young.

Teague Travis was responsible for OSU’s fourth bonus-point win with a 14-3 major decision over Jared Keslar at 157. Next at 165, second-ranked Izzak Olejnik remained undefeated with a 5-2 decision against No. 8 Holden Heller. Second-ranked Dustin Plott also got bonus points at 184, handling No. 12 Reece Heller 14-4.

Doucet, ranked 11, punctuated the dual with a 3-0 win over ninth-ranked Dayton Pitzer. Doucet has won four straight matches since suffering his only two losses in back-to-back outings, the first of which was by injury default.

OSU finished the dual with five bonus-point victories in its eight wins.

The Cowboys will stay in the Eastern time zone the rest of the weekend with a Big 12 matchup against No. 20 West Virginia at noon Sunday.
