OSU Wrestling: Plott, Carroll Secure Spots at World Championships
The Cowboys had a big weekend in Ohio.

The Cowboy wrestling program has had a big weekend, with a pair of Pokes headed to World Championships.
Dustin Plott and 2023 signee Christian Carroll each won in Geneva, Ohio to secure spots on their respective Team USA World Teams.
At 73 kg, Plott claimed his second straight freestyle national championship on Sunday, winning the U23 event at 7-0 with a trio of shutout wins. He faced Ohio State’s Carson Kharchla in a best-of-three final, winning the first match 21-10 after climbing out of a 9-0 hole. Plott pinned Kharcla in the second match to book his ticked to the U23 World Championships on October 23-29 in Tampere, Finland.
On Saturday, Carroll won his 125 kg U20 bracket in dominant fashion. Earning an automatic spot in the best-of-three final after winning U20 nationals in April, Carroll promptly went 2-0 against Aden Attao with two 10-0 wins. The second of those wins came in just 17 seconds. Carroll will compete with Team USA at the U20 World Championships on September 14-20 in Warsaw, Poland.
Four Cowboys also finished second this weekend, with Luke Surber getting silver in the U23 92 kg bracket. Surber won his first match against Cornell’s Jacob Cardenas 10-0 before falling in consecutive bouts.
In the U20 brackets, incoming transfer Troy Spratley battled to a second-place finish at 57 kg, as did Cael Hughes (61 kg) and Brayden Thompson (86 kg), both incoming freshmen.
