OSU’s Record Against OU in the Gundy Era Among the Worst of FBS Teams

There was a great question in The Chamber today about how Mike Gundy’s 2-12 record against his cross-state rival compares to other teams against OU in that same period of time. So I pulled every team OU has played since 2005 and made a chart. Here it is.

Team W L Pct.
Clemson 2 0 100%
Boise State 1 0 100%
Brigham Young 1 0 100%
Florida 1 0 100%

UAB 0 1 0%

• Clemson. Lawdy.

• Boise lol

• BYU LOL

• How about Texas — which has objectively been mediocre for a decade in a row — posting a 44-percent winning rate against OU. Do Lincoln Riley and Bob Stoops have a Texas problem? My column:

• Texas Tech (!) has twice as many wins as OSU since 2005. That is not good! Also, I think it might be worse that A&M has just as many wins as OSU does. They were not good for their last decade in the league.

• OSU is hanging with the West Virginias, Iowa States, Kansas’ and Tulsas of the world. Not exactly the “we’re elite CFB programs” club right there.

• Remember when Army almost beat OU? I member.

Here’s a look at the record of teams that have played at least five games. So taking all the UABs and Middle Tennessee States out of it.

Team W L Pct.
Texas 7 9 44%
Texas Tech 4 11 27%
Kansas State 3 9 25%
Texas A&M 2 6 25%
Baylor 3 12 20%
Nebraska 1 4 20%
TCU 2 9 18%
Missouri 1 5 17%
Oklahoma State 2 12 14%
West Virginia 1 8 11%
Iowa State 1 11 8%
Kansas 0 12 0%
Tulsa 0 7 0%

• Still bad.

• And listen, I get it. If the Gilbert pick goes differently or Corndog completes the two-point conversion or Jalen Saunders doesn’t go 81 yards on a punt return late in 2012, then all of a sudden OSU’s winning rate is 21 percent and they’re fifth on this list. However, none of those things happened, and they’re still hanging with teams they don’t want to be hanging with.

• If OU wins on Saturday, no team besides OSU will have 13 losses to OU since 2005. The toughest scene. ?
